DR. KRISTIN MISELIS

Dr. Kristin Miselis was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She took a non-traditional path to a career in medicine that enabled her to augment her medical practice with a broad range of life experiences. She specializes in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with a specific expertise in the treatment of individuals with eating disorders. She is proud to be serving the youth and families of Austin and its surrounding communities.

Dr. Miselis obtained her bachelor’s degree from Marlboro College where she participated in the World Studies Program. She studied Ecology and the social impact of the AIDS epidemic in Ecuador, and conducted immunology research at an international research lab in Cali, Colombia. After graduating from college, she worked in both basic science research and child and adolescent behavioral health. She found herself continually drawn to the interpersonal aspect of clinical work, confirming her decision to pursue a career in medicine.

Dr. Miselis graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where she learned from a number of physicians leading their fields in clinical practice and research. Throughout all of her clinical rotations, she was struck by the power of the physician-patient relationship to promote healing when nurtured and to interfere with healing when ignored.

She took a year out of medical school to complete a Master of Public Health degree at Columbia University with a focus on population and family health. It was this experience that consolidated her interest in psychiatry. She recognized that disruptions in the social and emotional development of children can contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality across the lifespan. A career focused on improving the mental health of young people can, therefore, have a broad, positive, downstream impact.

Dr. Miselis completed her adult psychiatry residency at the New York University School of Medicine in New York City and her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle. She did specialized work on the treatment of adolescents with substance use disorders during residency and the treatment of adolescents with eating disorders during fellowship.

She practiced primarily outpatient psychiatry in a community-based mental health clinic and then an academic practice after completing fellowship.

In 2017, she took a job as the psychiatrist at a partial hospitalization treatment program specialized in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults with eating disorders. Over the next five years, she continued to develop her expertise in the treatment of eating disorders through individual patient experiences and supervision from experts in the field

In 2022, she decided to bring her cumulative experience back to the outpatient treatment realm by launching her own private practice. Her practice is designed to address the unique needs of youth diagnosed with an eating disorder as well as individuals with other complex mental health needs. The practice is also dedicated to building community partnerships that will expand access to high quality psychiatric care.

Board Certifications: Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
